Trying out a new church community takes courage. Seriously. A lot of us have been hurt by church, walked away, or have one foot out the door. Some days, there’s too much that doesn’t make sense and honestly, we’re embarrassed when churches makes the headlines for terrible reasons.
Quite an intro for an I’m New page, huh?
We value transparency and being real about faith and community and God and all the things we’re trying to figure out, just like you.
Below, you’ll find a bit about what it’s like when we gather for worship. We genuinely enjoy following Jesus together. We’re far from perfect. But we’re trying to be people who know that and don’t take ourselves too seriously. We’re trying to care about the people around us and doing what we can to create a better world. We’ve been a presence in the Salem, Oregon community for many decades and we’re wildly curious to see what unfolds next.

Plan a Visit
We're located at 3674 12th St SE in Salem, Oregon. We're near Morningside Elementary in South Salem.
When is worship?
We gather for worship on Sundays at 10:00 am. It is a blended worship style with contemporary and traditional elements.
We have a Children’s Sermon as part of our worship, and children are welcome to go to Sunday School afterwards. We ask that parents pick children up from the classroom.
The service features music, prayer time, scripture reading, a message from our pastor and giving our offering.
Our pastor will preach a message based on a scripture passage and a theme relevant to our daily life. We pray that God’s spirit is at work through the pastor’s study and prayerful preparation.
After worship, all are invited to enjoy a time of fellowship in Hermann Hall! There’s coffee, snacks and wonderful people to connect with.
Can I watch online first? Yes! Watch previous services here. Or log in any Sunday morning at 10:00 am PST to stream live.
What should I wear? It's the Pacific Northwest, so people pretty much wear whatever they feel comfortable in. At all services, you'll see people dressed up, in jeans, workout clothes or even wearing their rain coat.
Child care is available for all who need it, but we recognize that some families might want to keep children with them in church. Children are welcome to stay throughout the service. Baby noises don't bother us!
Differently-abled persons worship regularly at Morningside UMC. We do our best to accommodate all persons, even when it means some minor disruptions may occur in worship. We are a family, and families accept one another and our differences. This may be helpful info on disabilities too! Some people even find it helpful to visit the building beforehand to get a feel for the space and ask questions.
Message Pastor Jenny (pastorjenny@opendoorchurches.org) to arrange a visit on a weekday!
Morningside UMC is a welcoming and reconciling congregation in the United Methodist Church. You won’t hear words of condemnation in our church.
We celebrate the sacraments of communion and baptism together. Learn more.
There is one primary parking lot with easy access to the building. Come a couple minutes early to park and make your way inside.
You'll be welcomed with a smile and hand shake but we won't make you stand up and introduce yourself! When and if you're ready, you can connect with the pastor outside the sanctuary or fill out an insert in the bulletin to receive more info about our community.
