Our Community
MUMC believes that we should have a passion for connecting with our community. We believe that God is calling us to become increasingly more vested in our neighborhood and local community. Morningside offers opportunities for both regular or one time types of community service to participate in. Here are some current service activities offered:
Parent’s Night Out
An important part of our neighborhood activities for many years, Parent’s Night Out is designed to give parents a night off while we watch your children. Sign up for our newsletter to hear about upcoming dates! Times are from 6-9 p.m.
Jason Lee Food Bank
MUMC supports the Jason Lee Food Bank (located at Las Naciones Metodista Iglesia Unida at 820 Jefferson St Ne, Salem, OR – 97301.) Click here to go to our page on most needed items or how to donate money instead of food. Jason Lee Food Bank is open four days a week and also has a soup kitchen which serves on Sundays (in cooperation with many other Salem churches.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Willamette Valley has been serving the community since 1991, working in concert with volunteers, donors, and partner families to build decent, affordable homes. To date, our affiliate has built more than 85 homes, housing more than 400 individuals- including over 300 children.
Morningside Elementary School
Partnership Program
Morningside Elementary School is a kindergarten through fifth-grade school with an enrollment that averages around 330 students. Childcare services are available before and after school by the Salem-Keizer Education Foundation and hosted here, at Morningside UMC.
We also sponsor a Backpack Lunch program that helps neighborhood elementary kids and their families with food items for weekend meals.
